Harmony between Science and Religion

Another cause of dissension and disagreement is the fact that religion has been pronounced at variance with science. Between scientists and the followers of religion there has always been controversy and strife for the reason that the latter have proclaimed religion superior in authority to science and considered scientific announcement opposed to the teachings of religion. Bahá’u’lláh declared that religion is in complete harmony with science and reason.

Negative Effects Of Science and Technology

Science and Technology have many negative effects on us and our souls. Science and technology can cause physical attachment in which people can be attached to materialistic desires and things. Technology is something that everyone can benefit from and use and is great however negative effects can include physical attachment to technology or science beliefs and this can damage our souls and can cause a problem to us. That’s why it is necessary to have a balance between materialistic desires and spiritual desires focusing mostly on spiritual desires the most. If there is a balance between Science and Technology and Spirituality then this can have a much greater effect on us. Science and Technology may impact our lives in a negative way however we must learn to control this effect and not let it grow in attachment. Meaning Detachment should be present in order for our souls to progress in this world and the world to come.

Science and the Mind

How does Science influence the mind and how does it cause people to believe different concepts and ideas?

Science is a rather large topic which can cover lots and lots of things but science has an influence on everyones minds and can easily change opinions and beliefs of people. When Science comes up with a theory of something people automatically conclude that the theory is true and that is all they being to trust and believe however people can choose not to accept the theory. Science has its advantages as it allows you to explain your ideas maybe when teaching the cause through a scientific way. People with scientific minds believe many things and enjoy sharing their ideas and concepts with other people which then causes these peoples minds to be transformed and may be a benefit to many religions and faiths as it can help believers to understand the ideas and concepts of the faith much clearer and better. With that in mind science is a good way for people to understand in their own way how things work and evolve around us in everyday life. Science can have little influence on the mind or heaps of influence on the mind depending on the person.

The impact of science to humanity

How does science benefit or impact on humanity as most of us would want to know. Science is a very broad and big topic which covers lots of things. Science has impacted humanity because science has allowed us to understand the Way things work on and how they are run e.g a car moving forward. This benefits us because then we can create and build technologies that are beneficial to humanity and actually have a use. Not only did science do this but it also had negative impacts on the humanity e.g the creation of nuclear weapons. These are negative impacts that do not benefit the society in any way. This is why science needs to be in harmony with religion because when science and religion are in unity then they together can achieve many things that can benefit and impact the humanity. The Nuclear weapon which was created brought a lot of destruction to parts of the world years and years ago like the Hiroshima nuclear bombing which killed hundreds of thousands of people. This is why science often has negative impact on humanity but however are tests that everyone faces whether to or not do this or use that and how it benefits the humanity.

When Technology and science work together

When science and technology work together they can achieve many things for example when the car was made. The car is made by both technology and science. The science aspect of the car includes the aerodynamics of the car and the way the car actually moves involves the technology aspect. So by this we see that technology and science can collectively create useful things for the society. At the same time this can help many faiths through allowing them to directly communicate with believers and travel to community events with transport. This can help the faith as they can gather together as stay connected with followers and even allows them to visit non followers to talk to. So Technology and Science are like tools that are useful to the progress of the faith and without these tools it will make it very hard for faiths to progress.

When Religion and Science Unite

When religion, shorn of its superstitions, traditions, and unintelligent dogmas, shows its conformity with science, then will there be a great unifying, cleansing force in the world which will sweep before it all wars, disagreements, discords and struggles — and then will mankind be united in the power of the Love of God.

(Abdu’l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 145)

Abdul-Baha said in one of his talks that once Religion shows it’s conformity with Science which means that it shows it’s agreement or correspondence then Unity will come about. A Power of spirit will be created within the world which will rid of all wars, disagreements, discord and struggles and that is when mankind will be united in the power of god. Religion and Science will need to combine and become united in order for all this to happen and the world to become a better place.

Harmony between religion and science

*Religion must conform to science and reason, otherwise it is superstition. God has created man in order that he may perceive the verity of existence and endowed him with mind or reason to discover truth. Therefore scientific knowledge and religious belief must be conformable to the analysis of this divine faculty in man.

In this quote we can see that religion and science should always be in harmony with each other otherwise it may cause chaos in this world. Both Scientific knowledge and Religious knowledge should not contradict each other and should be in agreement with each other. Scientific knowledge should correspond to the view of the capability of the person. Religion and Science must correspond with each other and be able to achieve harmony.

If Religion and Science do not conform with each other then this can become superstition which can cause false beliefs and disunity in that field. One of the fundamental principles of the Baha’i Faith is The essential harmony of religion and science. Harmony between science and religion will help establish an ever advancing civilization in this world. The True Principles of a religion are in correspondent with the True religions of Science. The Unity of god is logical and is never in opposition with conclusions brought by science, However Science and Religion must remain in harmony with one another to sustain order in this world.

Communication using Technology

And yet an element
of this change is the amazing advances in communications technology making
possible the rapid transmission of information and ideas from one part of the
world to the other.

This quote is explaining that technology has dramatically advanced communication in this world. Far distance communication is now the easiest thing some one can do. Communicating information from one party to another can now be done in a matter of seconds through the internet especially far distance communication. This is useful because it can help in promoting the faith through the internet and also keeping in touch with believers through emails and social spaces. Information can be transmitted in a matter of seconds from one part of the world to the other which can help in spreading the word of the faith and helping in communicating events in rapid and easy ways to different areas and countries. Also allowing concepts and plans to be communicated through different parts of the world to help in using effective methods of teaching the faith and maintaining it.

The Use of Modern Technology

….as maturity and resources allow, the development of the social and economic life of peoples, of collaborating with the forces leading towards the establishment of order in the world, of influencing the exploitation and constructive uses of modern technology, and in all these ways enhancing the prestige and progress of the Faith and uplifting the conditions of the generality of mankind.”

 (Compilations, Lights of Guidance, p. 545)

This quote from Lights of Guidance clearly states that modern technology should be used constructively which actually benefits the individual or the faith. In which modern technology can help progress the faith in many ways including helping to promote the faith using visual interactive websites on the internet.

Another important use of modern technology is that modern technology needs to be exploited in order to help to establish order in this world. Modern Technology has helped a lot in creating both peace and creating tranquility in this world but has also caused harm through the internet at the same time. Both pictures and writing has offended a lot of people and caused disunity among people. But technology has helped promote unity and peace through the internet through religions and writings.
